Career Coaching Services Intake Form and Agreement

This free program offers support for Massachusetts residents who want to start or grow their careers in the life sciences industry.

The Program Structure:

1. Online Courses – All Massachusetts residents are eligible to take the online courses. These courses cover topics such building your resume, building a cover letter, interviewing advice, recognizing and highlighting transferable skills, advice for your job search, and informational interviewing.
2. Coaching – After completing at least two courses, some participants may be matched with a volunteer coach for up to three sessions over a three-month period

Eligibility for Coaching:

* Participants who already hold a master’s or PhD degree in the life sciences or substantial experience in the life sciences industry are only eligible to receive access to the online courses.
* All other participants, including those with advanced degrees in other fields, are eligible for both online courses and coaching.

We will make an effort to match participants with coaches based on their profiles and answers to the intake questions. However, understanding the importance of privacy and confidentiality, we trust the power of random and unexpected connections. We will screen coaches and work to ensure those applying for coaching meet basic criteria.

Here's how it works:

1. You sign up here to receive coaching and provide basic information.
2. Through a similar sign-up process, we screen coaches who meet the criteria and are interested in providing coaching.
3. Once you have completed at least two online courses in the series, if you are found eligible, you will be matched with a coach.  We will send you an email introducing you and your coach. We will also share with the coach which courses you have completed. You two will take it from there. The coach will meet you for up to 3 sessions of approximately 1-hour over a three-month period.
4. MassBioEd will be in touch from time to time to provide updates on relevant workshops, events and resources. We will also collect information on your coaching experience through surveys (this is critical for us to continue to grow, learn, and support you better).
5. If you would like to continue with your coach after you have completed three sessions, please make separate arrangements with your coach. MassBioEd does not cover the cost of coaching beyond 3 sessions or for more than than 3 months.

By signing up for career coaching with MassBioEd, you affirm that you meet the required criteria, and you agree to the terms outlined below

You agree to the following:

* Partner with your coach for 3 sessions and complete these sessions during a 3-month period. You and your coach will decide on the frequency of coaching sessions (e.g., once a week, once a month, etc.) and meeting format (e.g., phone, Google Meet, Zoom, Signal, etc.).  Any arrangement beyond three sessions is outside of the agreement coaches have with MassBioEd.
* You will make a good-faith and timely effort to act on the advice and suggestions that you and the career coach agree will support your career advancement.
* You hold the Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation (MassBioEd), our fiscal sponsors, coaches, and any representatives of the foregoing harmless and release and discharge each such person from any and all claims, suits, controversies, causes of action, cross-claims, counter claims, demands, legal proceedings, debts, compensatory damages, liquidated damages, punitive or exemplary damages, other damages, claims for costs and attorneys’ fees, liabilities, or losses of any nature whatsoever in law and in equity, whether known or unknown, liquidated or contingent, which you have ever had, now or may in the future have relating to, arising out of or in any way connected with the coaching sessions, any interactions with coaches introduced to you by MassBioEd, and any other activity facilitated MassBioEd or our fiscal sponsors at any time (including any circumstance, agreement, action, omission, event or matter occurring or existing between you and any such person), except with respect to any matters which, pursuant to applicable law or public policy, cannot be released. This waiver includes agreeing that the organizers, coach, and other released parties will not be held liable in the event the coaching client (i.e., job seeker, displaced worker) does not find satisfactory work.

Disclaimer: Clients understand and agree that coaching is not therapy, psychological counseling, or social work, even though the coaching work may address personal issues or life conditions that impact on well-being and professional effectiveness. Clients further understand and agree that our coaches are not licensed career counselors, human resources professionals, or recruiters and that coaching conversations do not constitute professional career counseling, job placement, HR services, or legal, financial, or business advice. Further, the client agrees that coaches are not responsible for the decisions the client makes, nor are coaches liable for any damages or costs that come with a client's decisions or actions. None of MassBioEd, our fiscal sponsors, any coach associated with this program, or any of their respective representatives make any representation regarding the content of the coaching sessions or any outcome with respect thereto.

Note on Confidentiality: Neither the coaches nor the clients' information will be shared with anyone beyond the organizers of this effort, except, and as may be required by law, with the organizers’ affiliates (including our fiscal sponsors) and their attorneys, accountants, and other advisors.

Note on Coaching: Career coaching is a collaborative process that helps you grow and move forward in your professional life. It starts with the idea that you already have insight, strengths, and the ability to shape your own path. A coach’s job is to help you tap into that by asking the right questions, being curious, and offering gentle challenges to help you stretch and grow. It’s also about building the skills you need, creating strategies that work for you, and staying accountable as you move toward long-term success and fulfillment in your career.
