Career Coach Intake From and Volunteer Agreement

MassBioEd offers a structured career coaching program that aims to connect individuals from diverse and non-traditional backgrounds with education, training, and employment opportunities in the life sciences sector.

Our program offers a series of online courses followed by one-on-one sessions with qualified career coaches.

We are looking for coaches with a good understanding of the life sciences industry. Participating coaches will work with clients from diverse academic, economic, cultural and language backgrounds.  Coaches will commit to being matched with at least 3 pro bono clients and provide a minimum of 9 coaching sessions (3 sessions of approximately 1 hour each per client on average, but more or less depending on need, for a total of nine).

Once you have completed 9 sessions, you are eligible to receive an honorarium in the amount of $600.

Each month, coaches are asked to complete a short survey on the number of sessions they have completed with each client, and if possible, provide a brief status update (next step to be taken, coaching complete etc.). This helps us track outcomes and meet our reporting requirements to our funders.

As you begin work with your clients, we encourage you to review MassBioEd’s Career Hub, an online resource that provides valuable information on careers in the life sciences, relevant education and training pathways, as well as other resources.

We will make an effort to match clients with coaches based on profiles and answers to intake questions. However, understanding the importance of privacy and confidentiality, we are opting to collect minimal personal information and to trust the power of random and unexpected connections. We will vet potential coaching clients and work to ensure those applying for coaching meet basic criteria.

Note on Confidentiality: Neither the coaches nor the clients' information will be shared with anyone beyond the organizers of this effort, except, and as may be required by law, with the organizers’ affiliates (including our fiscal sponsors) and their attorneys, accountants, and other advisors.

Here is how it works:

1. You will receive an email with onboarding materials including links to our online course materials and an onboarding video. Once you have reviewed the onboarding materials, we will schedule a meeting to answer any questions you may have.
2. Once matched, we will send an email introducing you and your pro bono client and provide information on any online coursework the client has completed. You and your client will take it from there.
3. MassBioEd Career Hub will be in touch periodically to provide updates on workshops, events and resources that might be relevant to your coaching clients and to collect information on your coaching experience through surveys (this is critical for us to continue to grow, learn, and support you better).

By signing up to offer free coaching, you affirm that you are a credentialed coach, and you agree to the following:

* Provide regular updates on pro bono your clients’ progress.
* Abide by the ICF Code of Ethics, https://coachingfederation.org/ethics/code-of-ethics, including confidentiality and all ethical standards. (while preferred, ICF certification is not required)
* Partner with each client free of charge to provide up to 3 coaching sessions of about 1 hour each. Coach and client will decide on frequency of coaching sessions (e.g., once a week, once a month, etc.) and modality (e.g., phone, Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, etc.). Coaching should be completed in a 3-month period.
* Hold the Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation (MassBioEd), our fiscal sponsors, clients, other coaches, and any representatives of the foregoing harmless and release and discharge each such person from any and all claims, suits, controversies, causes of action, cross-claims, counter claims, demands, legal proceedings, debts, compensatory damages, liquidated damages, punitive or exemplary damages, other damages, claims for costs and attorneys’ fees, liabilities, or losses of any nature whatsoever in law and in equity, whether known or unknown, liquidated or contingent, which you have ever had, now or may in the future have relating to, arising out of or in any way connected with the coaching sessions, any interactions with coaches introduced to you by MassBioEd, and any other activity facilitated by MassBioEd or our fiscal sponsors at any time (including any circumstance, agreement, action, omission, event or matter occurring or existing between you and any such person), except with respect to any matters which, pursuant to applicable law or public policy, cannot be released.

Disclaimer: Coaches and clients understand and agree that coaching is not therapy, psychological counseling, or social work, even though the coaching work may address personal issues or life conditions that impact on well-being and professional effectiveness. Coaches and clients further understand and agree that coaches are not being engaged as career counselors, human resources professionals, or recruiters and that coaching conversations do not constitute professional career counseling, job placement, HR services, or legal, financial, or business advice. When signing up, the client agrees that coaches, organizers, and our fiscal sponsor will not be held liable in the event the coaching client (i.e. job seeker, displaced worker) does not find work. Further, the client agrees that coaches are not responsible for the decisions the client makes, nor are coaches liable for any damages or costs that come with a client's decisions or actions. None of MassBioEd, our fiscal sponsors, any coach associated with this program, or any of their respective representatives make any representation regarding the content of the coaching sessions or any outcome with respect thereto.

Note on Coaching: Career coaching is a collaborative process that helps individuals grow and move forward in their professional life. It starts with the idea that individuals already have insight, strengths, and the ability to shape their own path. A coach’s job is to help people tap into that by asking the right questions, being curious, and offering gentle challenges to help the client stretch and grow. It’s also about building the skills the client needs, creating strategies that work for them, and staying accountable as they move toward long-term success and fulfillment in their career.
