Explore the Genetics of Sickle Cell and the A1 and A2 beta-casein protein using gel electrophoresis
03/12/2025 08:30 AM - 04:00 PM ET
Description
Complete two different gel electrophoresis labs, both exploring Medelian genetics. In this full-day workshop, you will use pre-prepared DNA samples to explore the alleles of the beta-globin gene responsible for sickle cell disease and trait and the alleles of the beta-casein protein that is responsible for A1 vs A2 milk. We will also explain how you can create your own genetics labs using purchased DNA fragments or dyes.
Massachusetts teachers that complete the workshop and submit a pre- and post-workshop assignment are eligible for 10 PDPs.
All participants can enroll in our equipment lending program.
Lunch is provided and parking is free.
