Explore the genetics of sickle cell and coat length in dogs using gel electrophoresis
10/18/2025 09:00 AM - 03:00 PM ET
Description
Complete two different gel electrophoresis labs, both exploring Medelian genetics. In this full-day workshop, you will use pre-prepared DNA samples to explore the alleles of the beta-globin gene responsible for sickle cell disease and trait and the alleles of the gene that is responsible for coat length in dogs. We will also explain how you can create your own genetics labs using purchased DNA fragments or dyes. These labs are appropriate for 7th - 12th grade.
Massachusetts teachers that complete the workshop and submit a pre- and post-workshop assignment are eligible for 10 PDPs.
All participants can enroll in our equipment lending program.
Lunch is provided and parking is free.
